Keep foul odors from entering the house – Replacing A Wax Ring
Horing – Wax ring, Toilet wax ring
Be careful to keep foul odors from entering the house! It may be due to water leakage from the bottom of the toilet due to a failed wax ring. toilets are sealed to the drain pipe with a ring of wax. During installation the wax gets squeezed between the porcelain and the plastic flange, and once the toilet is moved from it’s original position, the wax ring must be replaced. It is not as hard as you think and takes just a few hours or so.
Then before we do it , The essential tools and materials must be gotten ready:
Adjustable Wrench, Screwdriver, Hacksaw blade, plunger, Wax Ring, Pliers, Large Sponge, Bucket.
1. Make sure shut off the water supply to the toilet.
Before you do anything you must first get all the water out of the existing toilet. I mean, that would just be messy if you didn’t, right? so folow me:
(1)Turn off the water supply valve at the toilet or the main shutoff valve for the house.
(2)Once the water supply is turned off, then flush the toilet.
(3)Hold open the flush valve to let as water as possible drain from the tank into the toilet.
(4)Mop out any remaining water from the tank and toilet itself with a large sponge. Squeeze the water out into a bucket and repeat the swabbing out process until the toilet tank and toilet are dry.
2.Remove the wax ring and plumbers putty from the toilet
With the water all drained from the toilet fixture, you can now proceed with removing the old toilet fixture itself.
(1)Disconnect the plumbing supply line to the toilet tank.
(2)Remove the plastic cover caps on the floor bolts which hold the toilet to the floor.
(3)Remove the nuts using an adjustable wrench.
If the nuts are rusted and seized on and cannot be loosed, then you will have to cut the bolt off below the nut with a hacksaw blade.
(4)Lift the toilet bowl and tank assembly off the closet flange bolts. and place the old toilet assembly on some soft, absorbent materials such as an old rug or stack of newspapers. so you can gently lay the toilet on its side or back making sure the porcelain tank and bowl are supported.
(5)Remove the wax ring and plumbers putty from the bottom of the toilet.
(6)Remove the old wax ring and plumbers putty from the closet flange as well. using a putty knife works well for this.
3.Installing Toilet Wax Ring
Once the closet flange is ready to accept the toilet, test fit the bowl by temporarily setting it on the flange and testing for bolt alignment with the toilet bolt holes and for levelness.
Slide the bolts in with the head down into the large end of the slot provided. Adjust the two bolts so that they are positioned (like a clock) at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock from the wall behind the toilet. Some manufacturers will provide a plastic washer to hold the bolt upright while you lower the toilet in place. If for some reason you don’t get the plastic washers with your hardware kit, you can use some of the wax to hold them temporarily while you set the toilet bowl.
The wax ring is very important of your toilet and is generally made from preformed amber petrolatum wax. It keeps sewer gases out of your bathroom and prevents flushed water and waste from leaking out from under the toilet. Some rings are just wax and some others have a plastic “funnel” or “flange” or “bell” built in for the added insurance of making sure the waste finds its way into your sanitary line. You just need a plain wax ring if the closet flange is slightly above the finished floor. If the closet flange is flush with the floor or slightly below, you should use a wax ring with the plastic bell or funnel. Overall, the wax ring is simple and effective.
The preferred method of installing the wax ring is to place it onto the bottom discharge outlet of the toilet. Remove all paper or plastic packaging and protection of the wax ring. Make sure to install at temperatures over 70 degrees. Center and press the wax ring firmly until it is well seated on the outlet. Be careful not to damage the wax ring or set the toilet down with the ring attached unless it is for final installation. If the ring becomes deformed it will not seal properly and cannot be reused.
Because of this, another common approach used by many plumbers is to set the wax ring directly over the closet flange and then setting the toilet onto the wax ring that way.

4.Setting Toilet in Place
Once the wax ring is centered and the bolts are holding there own in an upright position, it’s time to set the toilet in place. Carefully lift the toilet bowl, or with a helper lift the bowl and tank, onto the closet flange aligning the toilet base bolt holes with the bolts. The toilet will be elevated off the floor slightly as you hit the wax ring, but continue with gentle rocking pressure until the toilet is firmly seated. You will need to get right over the center of the bowl to best control the placement of the bowl.
Install the plastic cover base, washer, nut and nut cover for the two hold down bolts. Tighten each side a little at a time, trying to keep the torque or tightness similar on both sides of the porcelain toilet.
[ Warning: ] Be careful not to over tighten the bolts or the tank base will crack. Clean up any oozed plumbers putty from the bottom of the toilet base. Breaking the porcelain base would be even worse.

5.Make Final Plumbing Connections
Once the toilet bowl or bowl and tank are installed, complete any remaining plumbing connections.
After you are satisfied with the sturdiness of the toilet, go ahead and hook up the supply line to the tank and turn on the water stop valve and check it for leaks.
6.Now, the project was finished.
It is not hard at all ,just do according the tutorial.
